The Introduction to Archery Course
We run courses for absolute beginners from March till September, whatever the weather (Heavy Rain or Thunderstorms Excepted).The Course consists of four 2-hour sessions held on consecutive Saturdays from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm or Sunday afternoons 1.00pm till 3.00pm on our outdoor field at Highbridge Farm in Allbrook. ( If for any reason you cannot attend any of the sessions because of an emegency we will always let you make up the lost time at a later date).
(For anyone who can not make the weekend course we do offer the option of a 1 2 1 Course in the Evenings from March the 26th when the evenings get longer, this is subject to availability)
Our club has highly experienced, nationally qualified coaches and so we are able to offer one-to-one Instruction on the shooting line. Our primary concern is to make sure you shoot safely and having fun comes a very close second. We believe that anyone can be taught to shoot a bow – all you need is the desire to do it. Please note :-During your course you may be instructed by a Candiate Coach who is in training under supervision from a qualified Coach.
The club will provide you with all the necessary archery equipment so all you need to think about is your personal comfort – warm clothing, food, drink, chair etc.. Purchasing your own
bow is a big decision not to be taken lightly and we positively discourage new members from buying equipment until they know precisely what they want. When that happy moment eventually arrives, we will give you informed advice and even come with you to the shop to ensure you get kit that is matched to you as an individual. (Please read Beyond the Course below)
The fee for the four week Course is £60.00 per adult (over 18) and £50 per junior (under 18)
This must be paid by Bacs prior to the first day of the course.
If you would like to give the course to someone as a present, we can provide a personalised gift
certificate but for this we ask for payment in advance.
Beyond the Course
Once you have successfully completed the Course, you will recieve a Certificate of Achievement, we invite you to become a club member for which there is an annual fee.
You are most welcome to carry on using the club equipment for which we charge a small fee for a maximum period of 3 months which will give you a chance to work on your form and be mentored by our coaches and other experienced Archers as after this time we would be expecting you to be purchasing your own equipment. .
The major asset of our club is its friendliness and the willingness of our coaches, candidate coaches and members to help you out with all aspects of Archery and answer any questions you may have. Mentoring and further Coaching is available to all members to advance you on to whatever level you wish to achieve in your Archery Journey;
Does Archery suit a particular type of person?
.Archery is an All Inclusive Sport and has no barriers for anyone.
We have many club members with disabilities – wheelchair users, for example, as well as people with visual and other impairments – and it is a sport that appeals equally to both men and women, boys and girls. This makes it the ultimate family sport.
